Vaccinations:

Please be sure that all of your routine vaccinations are up to date, regardless of travel plans. http://healthycanadians.gc.ca/publications/healthy-living-vie-saine/3-canadian-immunization-guide-canadien-immunisation/index-eng.php Also - consult with a travel clinic at least 6 weeks prior to travel to ensure required vaccinations at time of travel.  At times, certain vaccines may need to be ordered in to the clinic, or may have specific administration requirements (i.e. yellow fever vaccination must be received at least 10 days prior to travel). Currently, while you do not require the yellow fever vaccine to travel to Kenya, you do require it to cross in to Tanzania from Kenya.

Malaria:

There is a risk of malaria in certain areas and/or during a certain time of year in this country. This is a serious and occasionally fatal disease that is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Currently, there is no vaccine against malaria. Preventative measures:  Protect yourself from mosquito bites. This includes covering up, using insect repellent and staying in enclosed air-conditioned accommodations. You may also consider pre-treating clothing and travel gear with insecticides and sleeping under an insecticide-treated bednet. Antimalarial medication may be recommended depending on your itinerary and the time of year you are travelling. See a health care provider or visit a travel health clinic, preferably at least six weeks before you travel to discuss your options.   ***Please ensure that you take a sufficient supply of all required medications to last you the entire trip. While there are good medical facilities in Nairobi, it may be more difficult to obtain prescriptions elsewhere. These medications should always remain in your carryon while travelling, in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription.
