The Tilas connection is one of the things that makes Tusker Adventure Travel unique. Our relationship with the Samburu people allows us to provide our guests with an unparalleled experience - an authentic connection to the Samburu and a chance for a rare glimpse into their lives. 1C6A2345 Dues to their nomadic lifestyle, it is rare for visitors to the country to have an opportunity to visit an actual Samburu village, much less spend time connecting with the people. Guests of Tusker are awarded this rare privilege - not only do we have the opportunity for nature walks, star gazing and game drives with an authentic Samburu warrior, we also organize visits to their village and schools to donate items and connect with the people. 1C6A2376 "Culturati" - preserving the culture of the Samburu people in a modern world - where goat herders wear iPods and Samburu warriors are on Facebook.

"Change has been created in our village."

- The far reaching effects of Tusker Adventure Travel (TAT) -

The 2015 safari group raised funds to purchase 19 goats for those families most in need in the village. These goats came with certain stipulations: goats must be kept until they have at least two kids - they must not be sold or killed until there is a second generation. Through these stipulations, we hope to devise a sustainable solution which is community driven and based on mutually beneficial relationships. goats 2) The Falcons The 2015 safari group collected and donated an impressive amount of clothes, school supplies, personal hygiene supplies and recreational items. Among the collection were several soccer balls and pumps. Shortly after our group left, Tilas began a series of educational groups, called Community Concerns, to discuss a wide range of topics from drought control, disease prevention and programs on development. In December, Tilas wrote to surrounding villages to coordinate a large scale environmental clean up program. More than 350 youths participated in this effort, picking up over 150 lbs of litter from several villages, and once the work was done, the play could begin. After seeing these youth in action, it was reinforced that change can be effected through sports and education - and Tilas wanted to encourage these young athletes. From this group, he selected two teams of football (soccer) players and two teams of volleyball players (boys AND girls!). They voted to name their new teams "the Falcons" and - using several of the balls left behind by our amazing guests on safari 2015 - were able to enter local tournaments, winning balls, uniforms and money. DSC_0358-2 In Tilas' own words: "As Falcons, we want to bring an impact to the whole country in the next five years. We want to promote gender equality, reducing child poverty and increase concern for the environment. As Falcons, we will give youth’s equal opportunities for them to reach their full potential through sports and education. In future, I have a plan of establishing a library and a well equipped sports centre to nurture the young talented in both education and sports. My brother, we live in Sub-Saharan Africa which is a dry land prone to droughts but through sports and education we (TAT) can bring a change. I believe education and sports is by no means an unreachable goal but requires a collaborative effort among everyone involved to determine what will work best. I am so happy that I am part of TAT." Thank you Safari 2015 - Let's keep it going!!   DSC_0655
